Organize the Estate

We carefully identify and sort the contents of the estate. This includes going through every room of the home (or homes) including basements, attics, garages, sheds and storage units. Nowhere is overlooked. The items that are identified fall into many categories:



Categories

  • KEEP: Items identified in a will are obviously kept but there may be many other items that although not identified in the will are of interest to family members.
  • RETAIN: Some items may be retained for staging purposes so as to assist in the sale of the home.
  • SELL: Where possible items are sold.
  • DONATE: Items in good condition but with little or no resale value can be donated.
  • DISCARD: Junk and items that cannot be sold or donated are discarded.
  • PAPERWORK: No paperwork is discarded without being carefully identified to see if it should be saved or not.
  • COMPUTERS: There may be valuable information held on computers, therefore computers, hard drives, removable media are separated and held for closer examination by the executor.

Take Inventory

A written and photographic inventory of all items kept, sold and/or donated can be made.

Arrange Appraisals

Professional appraisals for art, jewelry, furniture, objets d'art and collectibles can be arranged.

Hire and Oversee Contractors

We oversee any contractors involved in the disposal of the estate e.g. junk removal, donation pick-up, etc.

Clean Property

The property is left clean. If necessary, a professional cleaning service can be arranged.

Prepare Property For Sale

If the property is to be sold, we can supervise any painting, damage repair, extra cleaning, or landscaping that might need to be done. We can also arrange for the property to be staged for showing.

Provide On-Going Assistance

Throughout the process we provide on-going assistance to executor, family, heirs and legal counsel.
